SO YOU WOULD LIKE TO COMMISSION A PIECE OF ARTWORK? What is a commissioned piece of artwork? Commissioned artwork is a piece of artwork created specifically for you. Size, subject(s) and frame are done according to your instructions. How is the artist selected? Find the artist whose style and medium (oil, watercolor, etc.) you enjoy in their works and discuss with that artist the potential of doing a commission. Some artists do not like doing commission artwork. If the artist is positive, discuss subject, size and price. How do I establish the correct size for the artwork? My method is simply this. Cut a piece of brown cardboard to the size that you think will work on the wall in question. The cardboard is cut to the full size including the frame. Tape or pin the piece to the wall and let it there for a day or two. This will let you know, in your eyes, if the size is correct. The odds are, you will change it to a larger or smaller piece. How will the commissioned piece be priced? Each artist has their own method of pricing. My pricing is established in two phases. Phase I: Estimating the general cost of the artwork.
Phase II: Once I am aware of the subject, setting and size, I will submit two to four quick sketches for your review. Changes are then made according to your specifications and a final quick sketch is done for you to approve. After your final approval, I will give you an exact price for the artwork including glass, matting and framing and ready to hang on the wall. This price is firm and will not change. At the point of beginning to work on the final artwork, fifty percent (50%) of the firm price is due. Work begins upon receipt of your check or credit card information. For credit cards, the card number and the expiration date are needed. American Express, Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Upon completion and delivery, the remaining fifty percent (50%) is due.
